Jan-Mitchell Sherrill was
nominated for the American Book Award for his first volume of poetry, Blind Leading the Blind (New Poets
Series, 1978), and for the National Book Award for his most recent work, Friend of the Groom (Brick House
Books, 1994). His poetry has appeared in The
James White Review, Art and Understanding, and The Carolina Quarterly; he was a contributor to Hometowns: Gay Men Write About Where They
Belong (EP Dutton, 1991) and is the author of New York University
Press’s The Gay, Lesbian, and
Bisexual Student Guide to Colleges and Universities (1994). His new book
of poetry, Gunfire in Oz, is due
out from NPS/Stonewall in 2005. He is Associate Dean of Students at George
Washington University in Washington, DC.
